ReReadathon + Shelf Sweeper 2014

RRSS Banner Take 2

Last year I floated the idea of a ReReadathon to you all, of taking the month of July to set aside schedules and review copies to reread old favorites. A dozen or so of you participated, and we had a great time. A few weeks ago, Rachel from Beauty and the Bookshelf asked me if I was going to do ReReadathon again, and we got to talking. One of my resolutions for this year was to read more of the books I’ve owned but never touched, but I still badly want to reread my precious favorites. Rachel felt the same way, and so…

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the ReReadathon + Shelf Sweeper 2014 (#RRSS14), co-hosted by Shae Has Left the Room (me) and Beauty and the Bookshelf (Rachel)! Here’s the way it’s going to go down.

Shae Has Left the Room (this blog) is going to handle the ReReadathon part of RRSS14. I’m already eyeing my shelves, trying to figure out which of my beloved friends I get to revisit. Rereads are good for several reasons.

1. You get to read books that you know that you know that you KNOW you’ll love. Reading slumps begone!

2. You get a well-deserved break. Reading review books is fun, but sometimes your mind just needs to unclench for a bit. When I did ReReadathon last year, I came back feeling rejuvenated and excited to climb back on the metaphorical reviewing horse.

3. Rereads are an excellent way to gear up for new series installations. For instance, Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo comes out this month. I’m STOKED. Before I read R&R, I want to go back and reread Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm so I’m fully prepared. Enter ReReadathon!

Beauty and the Bookshelf (Rachel’s blog) is handling the Shelf Sweeper portion of RRSS14. This is where you get to attack your physical to-read shelf. All of those books that you snapped up on a whim, in a sale, or in a thrift store and promised yourself you’d read but never did? This is their moment to shine. Forget your ARCs for a minute and take time to love those neglected beauties.

Though ReReadathon and Shelf Sweeper are being hosted on separate blogs, they are not separate events. Think of them like Siamese twins, different but inherently linked. Both challenges will run concurrently for the entire month of July. Reread a book then tackle a shelf book or read a bunch of shelf books and sprinkle a few rereads, whatever. The order and amount is up to you. (You don’t even have to devote the entire month to RRSS14, just as much as you want.) Both events will have prizes that will be put into one prize pack, so even if you only participate in one half of the challenge, you’re eligible to win the whole thing.

Are you excited? (I’M EXCITED!) Do you want to know how to participate? It’s easy! All you have to do for your initial entry is to write an introductory post and post it somewhere (blog, Tumblr, wherever). In that post, tell everyone about RRSS14, link back to this blog and Beauty and the Bookshelf, and tell us what your plan is (why you’re joining, what you want to read, etc.) Then link that post up to the linky either below or on Rachel’s blog. (It’s all the same linky, so it doesn’t matter.) This bit with the post and the linking is the only MANDATORY entry, and you can do it anywhere between now and the end of July, so you’re good even if you join late.

Then, once July hits, start reading! You can earn additional entries into the giveaway by posting about RRSS14 throughout the month. That can mean writing reviews or discussion posts about the books that you read, giving us updates on your progress (what you’ve read, what you thought, how your opinions on your rereads have (not) changed), etc. Link them up in the linky and BOOM! Additional entries!

At the end of the month, Rachel and I will use a randomizer to choose one entry as the winner of the prize pack. And yes, this event is international! So get those posts ready and link them up below. I’ll be back at the start with a kickoff post to get things rolling. Until then, I plan to buckle down to push through these review copies so I can spend all of July basking in the good stories waiting for me!

P.S. We also have this handy-dandy button that you can put in your sidebar and/or use in your posts. Below are two different designs to choose from. Have at ’em!

Wow! What perfect timing! I had just decided about a week ago that I wanted to do a ton of re-reads this summer. There are so many series I love that that had their final books come out either last year or coming out this year so I dedicated the summer to these series. Half the time it’s been so long between installments that I NEED to re-read so I can remember what happened. Now that I know there is a fun read-a-thon, I know it was meant to be 😉 Thanks for hosting and I look forward to it!

There’s something about summer that seems perfect for rereads. I think it’s because there are fewer books being pubbed, and there’s no school. Even work is usually a bit lighter.

We’re excited to have you aboard!

I participated in the Rereadathon last year and was wondering if you were going to do it again! And I love the idea of the Shelf Sweeper too! Going to have to join this year again! 🙂

Your RSS feed isn’t working for me…the most recent thing it’s shown is the PARANOIA post.

Sigh. Yeah. Every time I think I’ve got the problem nailed down, another one pops up. Thanks for the heads up.

Now it shows all but the cover love.

          Bizarre. Perhaps it’s just delayed?

This sounds like a lot of fun! I am definitely going to participate. I don’t have a blog though, so hopefully I can just instagram the RRSS14 hashtag?

    • Shae June 11, 2014 at 5:01 pm #

Sure! Post tons of pics! However, I do ask that you limit your linky entries to one per week, please, since it’s very easy to post multiple pictures per day or even hour. The imbalance would be unfair. Also Tumblr, if you have it, is fair game.

Brilliant! I love the combination of the two ideas for one month-long challenge. I was eyeing the snazzy button on your sidebar just the other day and wondering what exactly the Shelf Sweeper portion of it was going to be 🙂 I’m not sure I want to go the entire month without reading any review copies since I’m really excited about a few in my pile, but I definitely would love an *excuse* to re-read favorites and also read some other books that have sat neglected on my shelf far too long for most of the month 🙂

Yeah, the brilliant thing about the challenge is you’re still totally allowed to read whatever you want. But if you hit a day where you’re like “Man, I just want to reread ____” then voila! Handy reason right here!

Let’s get ready to PARTAY! This is going to be so much fun, Shae! Thanks for letting me be your cohost for this awesomeness! (:

Thank you both for setting this up! I’m very excited to finally read some of those books that have been sitting on my shelf for ages.
